The more a woman uses the pronoun “I” in instant-messaging with her man, the more likely she is to report a high level of satisfaction in her relationship.

Researchers at UCLA analyzed 10 days of instant messages between college-age couples who have been dating for at least a year-and-a-half. They then interviewed the same couples six months later, and found that when the woman had frequently used “I“‘s in her messages, the pairs were 30 percent more likely to still be together. 

Study leader Richard Slatcher believes this could be because “I”-laden IMs are proof a woman feels comfortable talking about herselfwith her partner.

Since the male part of the equation also gives this barrage of feminine self-centeredness the seal of approval, it’s a good bet that the IMs analyzed contained more “I have a sexy surprise” messages than “I need to tell you what happened at work” ones.
